Athletic Trainer

Welcome to a new season of athletics at Bel Air High School! ATI Physical Therapy is excited to continue to be the provider of Athletic Training services for the Bobcats. ATI is proud to have BAHS as a part of our family of over 150 sports medicine affiliates that we support nationwide. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my role. My name is Elizabeth Swank, DAT, LAT, ATC and I am the athletic trainer. I am looking forward to a wonderful year supporting the Bel Air Bobcats.

A Little Bit About Myself
I have been the athletic trainer at BAHS for the past 7 years and I have been certified as an athletic trainer for over 12 years. I graduated from King’s College in Wilkes-Barre PA with a Bachelors in Athletic Training in 2008. In 2010, I completed my Masters in Athletic Training from the A.T. Still University, Arizona School of Health Sciences in Mesa, AZ. I have worked in multiple levels of athletics, including NJCAA, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division I, and Secondary Schools. While in Maryland, I have worked for Harford Community College, the Women’s Basketball team at Loyola University Maryland, and Northwood High School in Silver Spring. In 2018, I was blessed to finish my Doctorate in Athletic Training from ATSU-ASHS.

What is an Athletic Trainer?
An athletic trainer is a highly trained, multi-skilled healthcare professional that works under the supervision of a physician that provides care to athletes in multiple types of settings. The type of care that an athletic trainer can provide include, primary care, injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, examination and clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the AMA, HRSA, and HHS as an allied health profession.

My Role at BAHS
While at BAHS, I work closely with the school nurses, AD, coaches, parents, and student-athletes to provide the best healthcare possible for the student-athletes at BAHS. I am available after school to evaluate injuries and provide coverage for practices and games. I also act as a liaison between coaches, parents, student-athletes and physicians, specialists, and physical therapists.
